Moses Bamba (B.1997) is a Nigerian contemporary visual artist whose work explores the intersections of memory, identity, emotion, and cultural experience.

Born in Kaduna, Nigeria, and originally from Kebbi State, Bamba draws inspiration from personal narratives and the social environments that have shaped his worldview. He creates paintings that are both introspective and deeply connected to the richness of African cultural heritage.

He received formal training in Fine Art at Ahmadu Bello University, one of Nigeria's most influential institutions for artistic education and the historic home of the Zaria Art School. This academic foundation, combined with his innate creative sensibility, has enabled him to develop a distinctive visual language that balances technical discipline with expressive freedom.

Bamba’s practice is rooted in storytelling. Through carefully constructed compositions, evocative color relationships, and emotionally resonant imagery, he explores themes of personal growth, cultural identity, resilience, and the complexities of everyday life. His paintings often emerge from lived experiences, memories, and observations — transforming familiar moments into visual narratives that encourage reflection and emotional engagement.

A defining aspect of his work is its ability to bridge the personal and the collective. While grounded in individual experience, his paintings frequently touch upon broader cultural realities, creating connections between intimate stories and shared human experiences. Through this approach, Bamba invites viewers to consider their own relationships with memory, belonging, and self-discovery.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Imagination has always been my greatest companion. It allows me to see beyond what exists and discover possibilities hidden within ordinary moments. Through my works, I explore the meeting point between reality and imagination, creating visual narratives that reflect both the world around me and the world within me.

My art is deeply connected to my personal journey as an artist and as an individual navigating questions of identity, modernity, and self-expression. I am fascinated by the ways imagination can transform our understanding of reality, helping us find beauty, hope, and meaning in unexpected places.

By blending elements of the real and the imagined, I create works that evoke curiosity, wonder, identity, and reflection. The characters, environments, and stories within my paintings are often inspired by daydreams, memories, identity, and observations of everyday life — reimagined through a lens of possibility and creative exploration.

Ultimately, I hope my work encourages viewers to reconnect with their own imagination, identity, and memories; to embrace the freedom of creative thought, and to rediscover the sense of wonder that exists within us all.
