Austin George Dorgu(b.1992) is a multidisciplinary Afrocontemporary artist who lives and works in
Nigeria. He works at the intersection of contemporary and figurative styles, using acrylic, oil,
pastels, and digital media to explore the vitality of modern African life, identity, and the evolution
of culture.
Over the course of his practice, his artistic journey has focused on capturing the untold stories of
Africas present. His work functions as a visceral narrative that bridges traditional heritage with
modern innovation, portraying culture as a constantly evolving societal engine that retains its core
values while adapting to a globalized world of West African portraiture.
Recently, Dorgus work has centered on the series 'Culture in Transit,
' which explores the shifting
identities and evolution of African heritage in modern times. This exploration of Africa's
youth, their resilience and transformative power has been showcased internationally across the
US, UK, and Europe. Notably, he participated in two consecutive editions of the +234 Art Fair in
Lagos in 2025 and 2026.
Dorgus contributions to the contemporary art scene have gained critical recognition, with
features in publications such as ArtPlugged and Art Magazine, both of which cited him as an
emerging African artist to watch. Through these platforms and exhibitions, he continues to frame
young African voices as both torchbearers of heritage and architects of change.
